Short Lace Leaf Cravat

I adapted this pattern from Teva Durham's Lace Leaf Cravat to create a warm weather cravat. The inner leaf is framed with a wide textural edge. The inner leaf is defined with a vein of yarnovers, and the outline is carefully drawn with inward-pointing decreases.

Materials Needed:
Organic cotton yarn 2 skeins of 3 oz. (85 g), 103 yd. (94 m): Natural White
One pair straight needles, size US 11 (8mm)

Leaf Pattern:
Row 1 (WS): K2, p3, k2
Row 2: K
Row 3: K2, p3, k2
Row 4: K2, yo, k3, yo, k2 (9 sts)
Row 5 and all RS Rows through Row 23: K2, p to last 2 sts, K2
Row 6: K1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k1
Row 8: (K2, yo) twice, k1, (yo, k2) twice (13 sts)
Row 10: K2, yo, k4, yo, k1, yo, k4, yo, k2 (17 sts)
Row 12: K3, yo, ssk, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, k2tog (19 sts)
Row 14: K4, yo, ssk, k7, k2tog, yo, k4
Row 16: K2, k3tog-tbl, yo, ssk, k5, k2tog, yo, k3tog, k2 (15 sts)
Row 18: K2, ssk, yo, ssk, k3, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k2 (13 sts)
Row 20: K2, ssk, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k2tog, k2 (11 sts)
Row 22: K2, ssk, yo, s2kp2, yo, k2tog, k2 (9 sts)
Row 24: K2, ssk, k1, k2tog, k2 (7 sts)
Row 25: K2, p3tog, k2 (5 sts)
Row 26: K1, p3tog, k2 (3 sts)
Row 27: K3tog (1 st remains)

Garter Pattern:
Rows 1, 3, and 5 (WS): K
Row 2 and all RS Rows: K
Rows 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17: K2, p5, k2
Row 18: K
Repeat Rows 1-18 for Garter Pattern

First Leaf:
Using 2 strands of yarn held together, CO 7 sts. Begin Leaf Pattern; work even until Leaf is complete. BO.

Body:
With RS facing, using 2 strands of yarn held together, PU and K 9 sts along CO edge of Leaf (9 sts). Begin Garter Pattern; work Row 1-18 three times. To join edges, line up both ends of cravat to match; PU one st from matching end; knit 2 rows. Repeat; PU st and knit 2 rows. Repeat once more; PU st and knit 2 rows. Repeat Rows 1-5 of Garter Pattern.

Decrease Row (RS):
K1, k2tog, k3, ssk, k1 (7 sts)

Second Leaf:
Change to Leaf Pattern. Work even until Leaf is complete. BO.

Finishing:
Block as desired.
