Homemade Ginger Oil

via
Ginger oil leaves you with a little zing of heat when applied to the skin. This fresh, golden oil is deeply warming. It is one of the hardest infused oils to make because the ginger root is so juicy. Yet it's entirely worth the effort!

Ingredients & Materials Needed:
2 C. Ginger, chopped
3 C. Olive oil
1 Crock pot, (or yogurt maker) meticulously cleaned
2 Sterile mason jars with lids
Strainer
Cheesecloth or muslin

Directions:
  1. Place ginger in crock pot on lowest setting. Cover with the oil. Cover pot, but leave the lid slightly ajar to release moisture. Let sit (gently heating) for 2 days. Be sure to monitor your oil so that it does not boil or burn.
  2. Strain oil through cheesecloth or muslin into your first jar.
  3. Allow your oil to sit for 1 day to allow natural separation.
  4. Pour the oil off into your second glass jar.
Uses For Ginger Oil:
  • Massage it into aching joints, muscles or dry skin.
  • Incorporate it into a ginger & eucalyptus chest rub salve (stay tuned for the DIY)!
  • Massage congested breast tissue and lymph glands
  • Pour it into your bath with epsom salts
  • Add it to any Asian dish or use in a salad dressing

  3. Very nice! I have some store bought ginger oil, but this would be so much nicer(and cheaper). Don't have a crockpot though. Perhaps some day;)

    1. Thank you for your comment. I wonder if you could use a pot in the oven and keep it on the lowest temperature? I'll have to look into that to see if it's an option. Cheers!

  4. I just came across your blot while looking into making ginger oil. I love, love, love it! Awesome stuff on here!! I just finished day 4 of my ginger oil heating in my crockpot!!! Super excited to try it. It looks just like your photo, but it doesn't really smell like ginger... at all. Actually it smells more like the wooden spoon that I used to stir it. is that normal or could I have done something wrong?

    1. I haven't run into that problem. Was your ginger dry or juicy to start? Did you taste it?
