Have you wondered what to do with your orange peels since they don't decompose very well? If you don't want to throw them away but also don't want to toss them in with your compost, consider dehydrating them and turning them into a savory tea. Add a dab of honey to sweeten this zesty morning beverage.
Ingredients (to make approximately 1 quart):
2 C. dried orange peels (I chopped orange peels into small cubes and threw them in the dehydrator)
1 C. Tbsp dried green tea leaves
According to Wikipedia, consumption of Green tea is associated with reduced cholesterol and heart disease. Studies have indicated that green tea benefits oral hygiene, helps fight breast cancer and stroke, helps prevent weight loss and diabetes, and staves off dementia.
What a great idea! Is there any way I can do this without a dehydrator?
ReplyDeleteGood morning! That's a great question. I dried orange peels in the sun, and that worked just fine. They dry very easily and pretty quickly if you chop them up and place them on a small plate on your windowsill. Have a wonderful day!
